There’s a conversation we have at the end of almost every safari. It usually happens on the last evening, somewhere between the fire and the stars, when a guest goes quiet for a moment and then asks: “So… where do we go after this?”

We love that question. It means the travel bug has bitten properly. And while our answer often involves more of Africa — there’s always another corner of Kenya, always Tanzania next door — some travellers are ready for a different continent entirely.

One country that keeps coming up in those fireside conversations is Chile.

From the savannah to the Andes

At first glance, Chile and Kenya couldn’t be more different. One is a ribbon of a country pressed between the Andes and the Pacific; the other is open savannah rolling toward Kilimanjaro. But travellers who love one tend to love the other, and we think we know why: both are countries of enormous, humbling landscapes — the kind that make you feel wonderfully small — and both are far better experienced privately, at your own pace, with someone local at the wheel, than from row 14 of a tour bus.
