4-Day Tsavo East, Amboseli & Taita Hills Safari from Mombasa

4 daysScheduled group safari

About this journey

This 4-day safari from Mombasa, our Mombasa Rendezvous, links the three best wildlife areas within reach of the Kenyan coast: the red elephants of Tsavo East, the Kilimanjaro views of Amboseli and the waterhole lodge at Taita Hills. It is the most complete safari you can do from a beach base without flying.

You enter Tsavo East through the Bachuma gate and spend the first night at Ashnil Aruba Lodge. Day two crosses to Amboseli National Park, where elephant herds graze the swamps beneath Africa's highest mountain, and you stay at Sentrim Amboseli.

The final night is at Salt Lick Safari Lodge in the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, with an afternoon game drive, a night game drive to look for nocturnal animals, and a morning drive that includes tree planting. Before heading back to the coast you visit the World War I museum at Taita Hills Safari Resort, with lunch included.

Best time to go: June to October and January to March are the driest months, with the best game viewing and the clearest views of Kilimanjaro, usually early in the morning.

Who it suits: beach-holiday visitors who want a proper safari, with three contrasting parks and Kilimanjaro, without flying or returning to Nairobi. It is also a strong choice for families, as no single day of driving is very long.

The route makes a loop from the coast: north-west into Tsavo East, west to Amboseli, then back east via the Taita Hills. The night game drive at Taita Hills is a highlight, a chance to see nocturnal animals such as bushbabies, genets and hyenas that you rarely meet on daytime drives.
